The Mill Valley Memorial Day “I Love a Parade” on Monday, May 25 was a success where over 35 young people from Performing Stars participated, including pomp pomp girls on a decorated trailer, baton twirlers, hula-hoop girls, and drummers.
Performing Stars also won the award for Best Community Spirit.
Youth instructors were Sherry Hines, Nancy Janko, and cadets from the Novato High School ROTC program.
The community showed their support and volunteered their time to make the parade a success. Patrice Clark and youth at Manzanita Child Development Center made beautiful tissue flowers for the float. Donald Parker of Parker Automotives provided his truck that pulled the trailer provided by Dwayne Smith from DD&L Trucking.
Jessie Washington of Jessie’s Telecom, along with Wayne Price, assisted with the sound system.
Other volunteers who offered their support were: Charles Earl Dent, Nita Green, Kathy Caston, Sharon Johnson, Michael Williams, Homer Hall, Andrea Norwood, Hattie Cook, Barbara Morgan and Johnny Times.
The Marin City Community Services District, Boys and Girls Club and Bayside MLK Academy also provided rehearsal space for Performing Stars.
