The Richmond Main Street Initiative (RMSI) will present the 14th annual Music on the Main summer concerts Wednesdays, July 22 and Aug. 26, from 5 p.m. -7:30 p.m. in the lot next to the BART parking garage on the corner of Marina Way and Macdonald Avenue.
“The key component that has sustained these events over the years is RMSI’s ability bring diverse groups together for an evening full of music, food, and fun for the entire family, said the main street initiative’s executive director Amanda Elliott.
The first concert on July 22 will kick off the series with a dynamic show by BeaufunK with Michael Jeffries. BeauFunK is a six-piece New Orleans style funk and R&B band featuring former Tower of Power lead singe Michael Jeffries.
Another strong performance is expected from one of Richmond’s local R&B groups, The Reed Fromer Band. A regular performer at The Baltic in Point Richmond, band plays crowd pleasing R&B and soul music favorites by Earth Wind & Fire, the Isley Brothers and others.
On Aug. 26, the concert will feature Andre Thierry, who will bring his world-renowned accordion-playing skills and smooth vocals on the Main stage.
Also playing will be Caribbean Allstars who will bring reggae, calypso, and African highlife music to light up the stage.
The concerts will also feature family-friendly activities, Zumba fitness breaks, beer and other beverages for sale, artisan and food vendors, drawing prizes, and a special water saving comedy and juggling presentation by EBMUD’s EarthCapades. Admission is free.
Music on the Main is sponsored by the City of Richmond, Chevron, Sims Meta Management, and YMCA of the East Bay. Additional support comes from the Downtown Richmond Property Based Business Improvement District (DRPBID).
