Family and friends of Julia J. Earl recently celebrated her 99th birthday on July 14 at Chevy’s Restaurant, sharing stories of the love she has shown them over the years.
Earl, fondly called “Madear,” was born July 14, 1916, in Longview, Texas.
She was married to her late devoted husband Robert Earl for 58 years. They lived in Richmond where they raised their family of four – Jewel Graham (deceased), Robbie Jo Gillard, Carver Earl and Carol Williams.
Madear’s family insists that she has no secrets to living a long life, except loving the Lord and maybe a hearty appetite. One thing she has most enjoyed is cooking for her family and friends, everything made from scratch – from homemade biscuits to fried chicken, collard greens and tea cakes.
Madear has said that since she made it to 99, she will see if the Lord will bless her to reach 100 and maybe meet President Barack Obama.
