A press conference was held Wednesday in Redwood City calling upon the administration of the Sequoia Union High School District to reverse the termination of Dr. Morgan Marchbanks, most recently principal of the East Palo Alto Academy.
On March 4, 2015, the district’s school board of Sequoia Union High voted to remove her position and reassigned her to an entry-level teaching position after 24 years of service to the district.
“The board’s decision was orchestrated by the district administration in retaliation against Dr. Marchbanks for her advocacy on the controversial math misplacement and achievement gap issues in San Mateo County,” according to her supporters.
Marchbanks, an award-winning educator, has a long history of successfully working in the field of education and advocacy on behalf of all students in the Sequoia Union High School District.
She previously served as the principal at Sequoia High School for nine years.
