Deborah Perry was the winner of the “Live Your Dream Award” at the annual Soroptimist dinner on February 3, 2016.
The Soroptimist International of Marin County selected Perry because of her strength in continuing her education at the College of Marin in Kentfield, Ca, after an approximate 40-year absence. She returned to the College of Marin (COM) with the goal of becoming a Community Health Advisor, while working part-time and maintaining a 3.4 grade point average in her studies. She hopes to earn her degree in August 2016.
Perry is a member of Cornerstone Community Church of God in Christ in Marin City and would like to be a mentor to young women in her community.
In her short speech, Perry gave God the credit for every good thing that has happened in her life and thanks to her family, church family and friends for all their support.
Perry’s family and friends attended the dinner, which also included her favorite professor, Dr. Borenstein at COM. Perry says that her first official teacher was her sister Andrea, who taught her how to write neatly and to color within the lines. Perry’s daughter, Anicia, was her biggest cheerleader in life and helped her keep a smile on her face when she felt low.
