Sandré Swanson won an exclusive endorsement from the California Teachers Association (CTA) in his campaign for the California 9th Senate District seat.
CTA joins Congresswoman Barbara Lee, incumbent Senator Lone Hancock, Assemblymember Rob Bonta and Assemblymember Tony Thurmond in supporting Swanson the Eastbay Senate seat.
“In the State Assembly, Sandré Swanson built a proven track record as a champion for our public schools,” said Oakland Education Association President Trish Gorham.
“As a member of the Assembly Budget Sub-Committee on Education Finance, he fought to protect public schools from budget cuts, worked to put more resources in the classroom, and led the charge to return local control of the Oakland Unified School District so local teachers, students, and parents had a say in the future of Oakland schools,” said Gorham.
CTA represents over 325,00 educators in California’s public schools and colleges.
“It is a tremendous honor to have the support of classroom teachers here in the East Bay and across the state,” said Swanson. “As a Member of the State Assembly, I stood shoulder to shoulder with our teachers in the fight to protect our public schools from budget cuts, deliver more resources in the classroom, and ensure that every child has the opportunity of a quality education so they can succeed in life.”
