Betty L. Maze, 84, Receives Honorary Doctoral Degree in Theology from Global University

Betty Maze was awarded with an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Theology, Th.D, conferred by the Global University of Theology on March 5.

“Betty is an amazing woman who has dedicated her life to helping and teaching others,” said Larry E. Moore of Global University.

Maze is currently an active member of New Revelation Community Church.

She was born in Galveston, Texas March 5, 1933 and moved to Oakland in 1944 where she attended Oakland public schools.

Her instilled her commitment to education in her children who graduated from McClymonds High School. She has been blessed with 10 children, 37 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren and many more great-great-grandchildren.

Maze worked for the Rag Company on Adeline Street in 1959 before working as a campus supervisor for the Oakland Unified School District at Clawson Elementary, Hoover Junior High, Lowell Junior High and McClymonds High.

She was especially effective in relating to students and treating them as if they were all her own family members. She was known for using her family love approach while persuading students to not cut classes.

After completing her studies in the school of Humanities and Theology at Global University, a panel consisting of Rev. Dr. Donna E. Allen, PhD; James Sweeney, J.D.; Elder Louis C. Hayes; and Barbara Duyte, Th.D conferred the degree to Betty L. Maze on her 84th birthday.
