School District, AC Transit Reach Agreement to Save Bus Service to 3 Schools

The Oakland Unified School District and AC Transit came to an agreement Wednesday afternoon – with the help of the City of Oakland – to save supplemental bus service to Community Day School, Montera Middle School and Skyline High School.

This was an agreement that the two sides reached after months of negotiations over whether the school district or the bus agency would foot the transportation bill to the three schools in the Oakland hills.

“This is wonderful news for the students and families of OUSD. Our two sides, along with help from the City of Oakland, worked to find a resolution that’s good for everyone and it finally paid off,” said OUSD Board of Education President James Harris.

“We are relieved that we came to an agreement that will ensure our students get to and from all of our schools, including Community Day, Montera Middle and Skyline High in the 2017-18 school year,” said Harris.

More than 1,600 students from all over the city rely on AC Transit buses to get to the three schools. Many them chose to attend their school because of programs that are offered there that may not be present in other schools.

This agreement allows the students to continue at the school.
