Jabari Bird – an alum of Salesian College Preparatory – in Richmond and UC Berkeley, was selected 56th overall by the Boston Celtics in the NBA Draft last week.
The shooting guard known for his success beyond the 3-point line was plagued by injuries at Cal, missing 22 complete games in his college career.
Still, he ranks 25th on the school’s all-time career points list (1,227).
Bird is 6-6, 190 pounds and averaged 14.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1 assist per game in the 2016-17 season. He is known for his quick-release and ability to shoot off the dribble.
At Salesian, Bird became a McDonald’s All-American while leading the Pride to a 100-8 record over his three seasons, including a No. 1 ranking in the state during his senior season.
As a senior, he averaged 17.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game during league play.
