Shoppers on the prowl for green deals will soon have more square footage to haunt, when the Oakland ReUse Fair on Saturday, August 19th, will celebrate the grand reopening of two local upcycling favorites, both of which have added significant new space.
Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley will unveil its newly expanded ReStore, while The ReUse People of America (TRP) will present its own enlarged retail space on the same lot. Shoppers will browse bargains in the renovated spaces while enjoying music, food, and family-friendly activities.
Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, quality building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of retail, while keeping these usable goods out of landfills.
The giant TRP warehouse is filled with quality used building materials, many salvaged through TRP’s popular deconstruction program — lumber, windows, doors, cabinetry, appliances, lighting, roofing, flooring and much more —all for sale at considerable savings.
“We’re so proud to be a part of this event,” says Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley President and CEO, Janice Jensen. “Our ReStores are a win-win-win. They are a boon to bargain hunters, a benefit to the environment, and an investment in families looking to build stability and independence through homeownership. The Oakland ReUse Fair is such a wonderful way to celebrate all that Habitat does for the community.”
More than just a grand reopening; the Reuse Fair is a free event featuring food trucks, local bands The Hipwaders and Cap & Iain, live demonstrations, giveaways, and family-friendly activities like face-painting and children’s crafts that highlight environmental sustainability. Event co-sponsors StopWaste and Scrap-SF will be on-site, along with several other local organizations and artisans, to showcase and promote reuse in both practical and artistic applications.
The fair takes place from 10:00am to 3:00pm at 9235 San Leandro Street in Oakland. Attendees can also enjoy an additional 25% off at both the ReStore and TRP during the fair (some exclusions apply). For more information, contact Patti Wang Cross, [email protected]
