Contra Costa College Retains Marvin Webb as its Community College Laision

By DJ Stewart

Marvin Webb is a native of Richmond, an alumni of Contra Costa College, and the College’s former  Head Baseball Coach. He is no stranger to the complexities of the communities that Contra Costa College serves and his continous love for the community is rooted in his life experiences growing up in Richmond.

And now as the College’s Liaison, Webb will be conducting informational forums through the City of Richmond  and San Pablo broadening the outreach of Contra Costa College to community members less served traditionally.

These educational outreach forums will provide community members of class sessions, financial aid, older and re-entry students with information to make acquiring a college education accessible.

“Everything that I do builds connections between people to opportunities, and life-transforming possibilities. Education is a very important component of connectivity that will empower and enable people in our communities to grow and develop with the changing times,” said Webb. “Higher education is the key to higher level earnings and living in our ever-changing society and that Contra Costa College is the gateway to life-changing success, offering affordable educational opportunities right in your own backyard. I aim to navigate the community to these opportunities.”

Also known by many as “Minister Webb” because of his service at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and his gospel recordings, Webb hopes to build stronger campus partnerships with churches, community-based organizations and recreation facilities throughout the city.

“The gates aren’t closed but sometimes we just need an extra push to get through,” said Webb, excited about working to build CCC’s network and impact in the Richmond community. “I’m going to provide that extra push.”
