Several Richmond pastors and community leaders met with Contra Costa Community College District (CCCCD) leaders to meet the new Chancellor Fred Wood and to share the concerns and ideas of the community.

The meeting was the brain child of former President of Contra Costa College McKinley Williams and spear headed by current President Mojedeh Mehdizadeh. Mehdizadeh talked about new grant money and new opportunities for students.

Joe Fisher, a community activist said he thought, “This gesture shows that, what the community thinks and feels does matter.”

Min. Marvin Webb, who is also the Community Liaison for Contra Costa College, suggested tailoring the curriculum to reflect the changing economic environment and utilizing many teen centers as the satellite campuses in the community. He said his motto is “Contra Costa College is the Gateway to Life Changing Success.”

Pastor Bernstine suggested a Super Sunny, something that is already done in the churches by the CSUs. There were several great ideas shared by Andrea Bailey of Chevron and members of the CCCCD Board Vicki Gordon and John Marquez. The chancellor promised to meet again with the group at a later date.
