“Eat, Shop, & Sing: A Christmas Experience” at Allen Temple, Dec. 17th

Allen Temple Baptist Church Children’s Choir Director Jamie O’Donal joyfully directing a presentation by children in the music instruction programs, which are open to the public.

The public is invited to a special 2017 celebration of Christmas on Sunday, December 17, at Allen Temple Baptist Church, 8501 International Boulevard in Oakland. A full day of food, shopping, and beautiful music is free and open to the public.

From 3:004:30 p.m., a special choral program will be presented in the Sanctuary featuring the Children’s Choir, the full music ministry, and a community sing-along.

For decades, Allen Temple annually presented the musical, “Black Nativity,” under the direction of the legendary Minister Betty Gadling, who also established music teaching programs and summer camps that now bear her name.

The Betty D. Gadling Music Academy offers music lessons to everyone in our church and surrounding community, and with support from this fundraiser, “Black Nativity” will be presented in 2018.

Under new Minister of Music Derrick Hall, this 2017 Christmas celebration will continue the legacy started years ago.

“We are so happy to have all of our music ministry members partner together in this 2017 effort,” said Music Minister Hall.

The Sunday event begins in the Family Life Center right after the first worship service with vendor gift sales starting at 10:30 a.m., and it continues throughout the day. A full sit-down dinner will be for sale ($10/adult, $5/children), between 1:003:00 p.m., at which hour the Christmas choral program will be presented in the church sanctuary.

The children will be featured for the Christmas program and will be joined by the Men’s Chorus, Women’s Choir, Unity Choir, and young adult choir called LYFE – Living Your Full Expectation.

Shopping continues back in the Family Life Center after the program, where hats, jewelry, desserts, and other hand-crafted items for sale will make perfect Christmas gifts.

Hard work by the Black Nativity committee, with the graphic design and publicity support of Rev. Charlotte Williams, brings this wonderful event to the community. Members Patsy Lockhart, Shauna Gillespie-Ford, Deborah Richardson, Delisa Rucker, Jamie O’Donal, Linda Walls-Brown, Nate Terry, Flo Wiley, Donna Thompson, and Minister of Music Derrick Hall have dedicated long hours to this community celebration of the Christmas holiday.
