Affordable housing supporters held a rally and began signature gathering in Oakland last weekend to kick off the Bay Area campaign in support of the Affordable Housing Act.
The statewide initiative would repeal the Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act, the main legal roadblock that prevents cities and counties from passing strong rent control measures.
The campaign to place the measure on the November ballot was launched after Democratic politicians, supporting developer and real estate interests, killed the bill in the State
The rally Saturday morning at Fruitvale Village in East Oakland, hosted by Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE),  was the first of many signature gathering events in support of the Affordable Housing Act.
