West Contra Costa Unified School District increased pay for educators
The West Contra Costa Unified School District will be holding a Teacher Recruitment Fair on Feb. 2, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Alvarado Adult School, 5625 Sutter Ave. in Richmond. Prospective employees can meet and interview with WCCUSD principals for a variety of certificated openings; learn about how teachers are supported; visit with university partners and network with other educators.
WCCUSD is looking for teachers and staff to fulfill the intent of their recently adopted Roadmap 2022, an aggressive 4-year plan focused on Thriving Employees, Engaged Communities, and most importantly, Achieving Students.
Openings exist for elementary school teachers; secondary teachers for English, math, science and physical education and special education teachers for severely handicapped children and a speech pathologist.
Supt. Matthew Duffy and his team worked in partnerships with WCCUSD’S employee groups to improve compensation, making it among the best in the East Bay, and enhanced professional development and support so that the schools drive the change for students.
The board recently adopted a teacher contract that increased compensation by 15 percent over the next three years.
WCCUSD offers teachers five full weeks of break during the school year, personalized and site-based professional development as well as time to collaborate with colleagues across the school and the district.
The district has more than 30,000 students and 3,000 employees spread across 54 schools located in eight diverse communities and cities spanning 68 square miles from Hercules to the north and El Cerrito to the south.
It reflects the diversity of the Bay Area with a student population that is 54 percent Latino; 18 percent African American; 10 percent Asian; 10 percent White; 6 percent Filipino and 2 percent multiracial. Families in WCCUSD speak more than 50 different languages; 34 percent of students are English Language Learners.
