San Francisco – The Giants look to finish strong before the half. Coming to the halfway point of the season things could be looking up for San Francisco. Alex Dickerson homered, while Brandon Crawford and Buster Posey added hits to spark the offense in the Giants 6-3 win over the D-backs.
“Good at-bats throughout the lineup,” said manager Bruce Bochy. “We really did some good things there offensively. It’s good to see us put a few runs on the board and take a little pressure off these pitchers.”
Dickerson recorded his second home run of his career. He blasted a solo shot to right field for the 1-0 lead. By the third Posey went yard with a two-run homer that bounced off the wall. But after the further review, the call was overturned, Posey doubled scoring in Brandon Belt to make it a 2-0 game.
“For the most part, I haven’t felt great, obviously,” Posey said. “That kind of goes along with what my numbers are. I think the big thing is swinging at good pitches. But if you feel like you’re not in a position that you can get to certain pitches, you tend to chase a little bit more. Hopefully, if I can get into to fire, I’ll be able to swing at better pitches.”
Posey batting a career-low went hittles in 15 at-bats. He recorded his first multi-hit three-hit game of the season with two singles and a home run. Posey’s last home run at Oracle came last year on June 19 vs MIA.
Arizona stayed close through most of the game until the Giants scored to runs in the seventh to pull away for good. Mike Yastrzemski led off the frame with a single, and Dickerson drove him while Posey scored off a wild pitch to make it a 6-2 game.
The D-backs tried to rally in the ninth when closer Will Smith gave up a single to Carson Kelly then walked Tim Locastro putting two now with no outs. Adam Jones grounded into a force out and that brought Jarrod Dyson to the plate who drove in Kelly with a RBI single. Smith struck out the next two batters to end the game.
“The theme tonight was we couldn’t get the hit we needed, said manager Corey Lovullo. “You have to execute and sometimes you do and tonight we didn’t. Scoring a run or getting a scratch runner here or there is crucial and in this park especially. Runs are at a premium especially on a night like tonight where it’s cold and windy. We couldn’t capitalize at the right time.”
