There will be two events concerning the U.S. Census 2020 at the Marin City Library, 164 Donahue St. in Marin City
The first event, “I Count, You Count, Everybody Counts – Discover Your Family’s Census Story” will be on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Come to this special event to research your genealogy and find out about your family’s records.
Felecia Gaston, Performing Stars executive director, found her grandmother’s Census records from 1940 on Ancestry.com. It was important to the Gaston family then to get counted in the Census.
Marin City Library will provide free, in-library access to Ancestry.com. A USB drive giveaway and refreshments are sponsored by the Friends of Marin City Library. The first 25 adults to sign up to attend this event will receive a complimentary USB drive to save their images from Ancestry.com.
This event is a collaboration between the Marin City Library and Performing Stars.
Please call the Library at (415) 332-6158 to reserve your space.
The second event is “Marin City Counts,” a community celebration of the creative art projects created by Marin City children. It will be presented on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Marin City Library.
Marin City Counts showcases a partnership between Performing Stars and Dominican University of California to raise awareness and promote census participation by Marin City residents in preparation for the 2020 Census.
The art projects are the results of work by Dominican University interns and Bayside MLK Academy students who produced public artwork including outdoor banners, hand-painted portraits in laundry rooms and designs on garbage dumpsters during a 3-months-long after-school program.
Community partners for the “Marin City Counts” are Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin, Sausalito Marin School District, Marin Housing Authority, Bay Cities Refuse, Women Helping All People, and the Golden Gate Village Residents Council.
Sponsors for the “Marin City Counts” event are the TomKat Foundation, County of Marin, Bay Area Counts 2020, Main Census 2020, and Friends of the Marin City Library.
