2024 Subaru Ascent Touring: A Comprehensive Review
The 2024 Subaru Ascent Touring stands out in the competitive SUV market with its blend of robust performance, high-end comfort, and advanced safety features. Designed for families and adventurers, the Ascent Touring excels on city streets and off-road trails.
Performance and Efficiency
At the heart of the Ascent Touring is a 2.4-liter DOHC Turbocharged Subaru BOXER engine, delivering 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Coupled with a High Torque Lineartronic CVT transmission, it ensures smooth and responsive acceleration. The vehicle achieves a fuel economy of 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, making it practical for long road trips and daily commutes.
Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, combined with Vehicle Dynamics Control and X-Mode Dual-Mode Traction Management, offers superior handling and stability in challenging driving conditions. Whether navigating snow-covered roads or rugged terrains, the Ascent Touring provides a confident and controlled driving experience.
Exterior Design
The Ascent Touring’s exterior exudes sophistication with its Dark Mahogany Pearl finish and 20-inch alloy wheels with a dark gray machine finish. Key features include LED steering responsive headlights with high beam assist, LED fog lights, and a panoramic power moonroof with a dual glass panel and power sunshade. Roof rails with a 700lb static load capacity enhance utility while rain-sensing windshield wipers and folding heated power mirrors with turn signals add convenience and safety.
Interior Comfort and Convenience
Inside, the Ascent Touring boasts a luxurious cabin with Java Brown Nappa leather upholstery. Features include tri-zone automatic climate control with second-row HVAC controls, a 12-way power driver’s seat with four-way lumbar support, and heated and ventilated front seats. The second-row seats are also heated, ensuring comfort in all weather conditions.
The SUBARU STARLINK 11.6-inch multimedia navigation system offers seamless integration with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Harman Kardon Quantum Logic Surround Sound Speaker System, with 14 speakers, delivers an immersive audio experience.
Additional highlights include an auto-dimming smart rearview mirror with compass and HomeLink, a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, and a power rear gate. Practical features like retractable sunshades for the rear doors, footwell lighting, and an all-weather package with heated front seats and a retractable cargo cover enhance the overall experience.
Safety and Technology
The 2024 Ascent Touring is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features. The EyeSight Driver-Assist System with Automatic Emergency Steering, Driver Focus Distraction Mitigation, and Reverse Automatic Braking System (RAB) enhances driver awareness and reduces accident risk. Additional safety features include a Subaru Advanced Frontal Airbag System, driver’s side knee airbag, front seat side-impact airbags, and side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors.
Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and a Surround View Monitor System contribute to the vehicle’s safety credentials. The Rear Vision Camera and Rear Seat Reminder ensure vigilance, while the anti-theft alarm and immobilizer system adds security.
Driving Experience
The Ascent Touring offers a comfortable and composed ride, even on rough roads, thanks to its well-tuned suspension and multiple driving modes. Its high ground clearance and off-road capabilities make it ideal for exploring beyond the pavement. However, the engine can be somewhat noisy during acceleration, a minor drawback for some drivers.
One main criticism is its cramped third-row seating. While the front and second-row seats provide ample space and comfort, the third row is better suited for children or smaller adults. This limitation might be a consideration for larger families who frequently use all three rows.
Conclusion
The 2024 Subaru Ascent Touring is a well-rounded SUV that offers a compelling mix of performance, safety, and luxury. Priced at $40,931, it provides excellent value with its extensive list of standard features and advanced technologies. Despite a few drawbacks, such as the cramped third row and engine noise, the Ascent Touring stands out as a versatile and capable vehicle ideal for families and adventure enthusiasts. Whether navigating urban environments or exploring the great outdoors, the Ascent Touring is equipped to handle it all with style and confidence.

OP-ED: The Illusion of Allyship. White Women, Your Yard Signs Mean Nothing to Me
NNPA NEWSWIRE – “The blue bracelets are something White women are wearing so others can see that they didn’t vote for Trump,” says Liberal Lisa from Oklahoma on X. Chile, bye. These bracelets are hollow symbols, empty gestures that mean nothing to me. An accessory to claim distance from Trump’s legacy is superficial comfort, while the choice to not stand with us in the voting booth is far more profound.
Political yard signs can symbolize intentions and allegiance. But this year, they’ve also symbolized betrayal. During this general election, Black women were led to believe that more White women would stand with us. Exit polls, however, told a different story. Despite overwhelming displays of support, more White women still chose to vote for the convicted felon, reality TV star, and rapist. White women answered the call but left us hanging at the polls.
A Familiar Disappointment
I live in DeKalb County, Georgia, and the abundance of Harris-Walz yard signs could’ve fooled me. But I’ve seen this before, back when Stacey Abrams ran for governor. White women showed up, put up signs, attended rallies, knocked on doors, and phone-banked. Yet, when it came time to vote, they let us down—not once but twice. I’ve been here for over 15 years, and if there’s one thing I know, it’s that political signs are symbols without weight.
In every election, I’ve talked with White women. Most aren’t the primary earners in their families and vote along party lines, aligning with the preferences of their fathers and husbands. These conversations reveal a reluctance to break from tradition, even when their votes affect women and certainly when their votes impact the lives of people who look like me.
The Illusion of Solidarity—Symbols Are Not Enough
On social media, I’m seeing White women posting pictures of blue bracelets to “prove” they didn’t vote for Trump. “The blue bracelets are something White women are wearing so others can see that they didn’t vote for Trump,” says Liberal Lisa from Oklahoma on X. Chile, bye. These bracelets are hollow symbols, empty gestures that mean nothing to me. An accessory to claim distance from Trump’s legacy is superficial comfort, while the choice to not stand with us in the voting booth is far more profound.
I’ve seen Black Lives Matter signs and black squares posted on Instagram to “prove” support for Black people, but we now know that was a lie, too. Will those same people who claimed Black lives mattered now take down their Harris-Walz signs and show their true selves?
Navigating these truths is a daily struggle for me—professionally and socially. White women often misuse their privilege, supporting us only when it’s convenient. Seeing overqualified Black women sabotaged or abandoned by White women at critical moments is a constant emotional challenge. It’s exhausting to live with this reality, especially when solidarity seems like something they pick up and discard at will.
One clever campaign ad from Harris-Walz that spoke directly to White women. “Your Vote, Your Choice” emphasized that their vote was private—independent of their household situation. Another was from Olivia Howell Dreizen, the “Vote Without Fear” campaign, which empowered women to consider the greater impact of their choices. But it seems many still couldn’t choose the roadmap to freedom—even when it was handed to them.
A Call for Action Beyond Words
White women, I want to believe you care, but actions speak louder than yard signs, bracelets, or Instagram posts. Show up in our communities, advocate in your workplaces, and stand up to dismantle the structures that uphold white supremacy. Only through real action will we know where you stand.
If you choose not to act, we see you—and we know exactly where you stand. Good luck these next four years.
