Celebrating its fourth anniversary, Blavity, Inc. – home to the largest network of platforms and lifestyle brands serving the multifaceted lives of Black millennials, today announced the relocation of AfroTech – the nation’s largest technology conference for African American techies and entrepreneurs – to Oakland, California. AfroTech 2019 will take place November 7 – 10, 2019 at the Oakland Convention Center and surrounding venues located in the heart of Oakland.

For the past three years, AfroTech has been located in the global center for high technology, Silicon Valley, where it has created a name for itself as the premiere technology conference for people of color. Now in its fourth year, the conference is moving to Oakland with a goal to directly impact the community it seeks to serve empowering and equipping people of color for the technology space.

To commemorate the AfroTech 2019 Conference and its move to Oakland, Blavity is proud to announce the creation of the AfroTech Community Engagement and AfroTech Entertainment Committees, which will work to integrate AfroTech and its mission of connecting African Americans in the tech and entrepreneurship space into the greater Oakland community before, during, and after the conference.

This year, AfroTech is partnering with both community-based organizations and minority-owned businesses, including 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, Coding Dojo, Superheroic, the Oakland African-American Chamber of Commerce, Bay Area Black Market, Kapor Center, Oakland Codes, The Hidden Genius Project, Black Girls CODE, Peralta Foundation, Oakland Unified School District, AI4ALL, and the David E. Glover Emerging Technology Center.

“As the conference expands to reach over 6,000 Black professionals and start-up founders, we sought to partner with organizations that have a track record of empowering professionals in Silicon Valley and making an impact in the Bay Area” says Blavity, Inc. Founder and CEO, Morgan DeBaun.

AfroTech 2019 will also feature a social and entertainment component; partnering with Brunch 2 Bomb, Toasted Life, So Oakland, Mixologi, and RNB House Party to enhance the week-long experience for the African American millennial attendees.

“AfroTech is all about fellowship and building a social network of innovators, investors, and professionals together. We want our attendees coming from all over the country and the world to celebrate their successes in the tech industry” says DeBaun.
