“Ladies in Red” founder Brenda Knight reported to the Post News Group that despite providing care to her husband of 45 years for his chronic heart condition, she gained deep insights into the importance of “Mind, Body and spiritual connection to thrive as a survivor and caregiver.

Despite being a caregiver she organized a full year of Ladies in Red activities. Her empowerment group makes safe travel possible and is meant to energize and rejuvenate.

The group visits New York, Washington, D.C., and points in between in a typical year of trips and events. She led the group to the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., and is an Ambassador of the Museum, helping to increase its membership.

She mentioned that her 2018 kick-off event on February 3, will celebrate their 22nd anniversary at the Concord Hilton. Ladies in Red continues to support the Girl’s School in Nairobi, Kenya, and donations are made at the event.

The 2018 kick-off annual luncheon is followed by a lecture co-sponsored with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Center to present the Rev. Dr. William Barber on April 21, followed by the 7th Annual Conference: Breast Cancer & African Americans (BACA) on Sat., May 18, 2018.

Along with Ladies in Red, Knight is a motivational speaker, who has worked with the Stanford Cancer Institute, National Council of Negro Women, Kaiser Hospital Vallejo, Oakland Unified School District, and has addressed many congregations throughout the bay area.

She is a former elected official and a committed national educational leader and advocate, who has been a trustee for both the Peralta Community College District and Napa Valley College.

She made history as the first African American woman to be elected Chairman of the Board for the national Association of Community College Trustees.
