Community Members Demand Answers from OPD Compliance Director
Protesters affiliated with PUEBLO and the Ella Baker Center attempted to confront Oakland Police Department Compliance Director Tom Frazier at his office on Wednesday.
They have been angry about Frazier’s silence since he made the decision not to assign police intake workers to the Civilian Police Review Board, instead placing them in the Internal Affairs Division of OPD.
The group showed up at his office at 1970 Broadway with a shiny new copy of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, signifying his apparent negative attitude toward community activism in changing how the police department is run. However, the group was instead greeted by officers who had been called to “keep the peace.”
“He is acting more like a fugitive than a police commissioner,” said Rashidah Grinage, PUEBLO’s Executive Director.
Since assigned to help the department meet the tasks set by the Negotiated Settlement Agreement, Grinage believes that Frazier has caused more obstacles and has not helped establish positive police-community relations.

San Pablo Appoints New Economic Development and Housing Manager
Kieron Slaughter has been appointed as the economic development & housing manager for the City of San Pablo. Since 2017, Slaughter has served as chief strategic officer for economic innovation in the City of Berkeley’s Office of Economic Development. Previously, he served in a 2.5-year appointment in the Pacific West Region as one of 10 Urban Fellows in the United States National Park Service.

Since 2017, Slaughter has served as chief strategic officer for economic innovation in the City of Berkeley’s Office of Economic Development. Previously, he served in a 2.5-year appointment in the Pacific West Region as one of 10 Urban Fellows in the United States National Park Service.
Before that he was an associate planner in the City of Richmond’s Planning and Building Services Department from 2007-2015.
San Pablo City Manager Matt Rodriguez lauded Slaughter’s extensive experience in economic development, housing and planning, saying he will add a “valuable perspective to the City Manager’s Office.”
Slaughter, a Berkeley resident, will start in his new role on Nov. 12, with a base annual salary of $164,928, according to the City of San Pablo.
