Congresswoman Wilson’s Statement on Gen. John Kelly’s Use of a False Claim to Promote a New Career
NNPA NEWSWIRE — “If his actions weren’t so deplorable, I might feel sorry for him because despite his outward bravado, deep inside he knows the truth. When he looks in the mirror, even he can see the four stars he worked so hard for are forever tarnished as a result of his inexplicable decision on Oct. 19, 2017, to lie about me and lie to the American people.”
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson issued the following statement in response to news of General John Kelly’s use of video footage of himself making a false accusation about her to launch a new speaking career:
“Upon learning that General John Kelly is using a video of himself telling a blatant lie about me to promote his new public speaking career, I felt as stunned as I did on the day that he uttered the falsehoods live from the podium of the White House briefing room. It is astounding that after nearly two years of mentions in the media highlighting his deceit and the cloud under which he ended his tenure as President Trump’s chief of staff, that he would use this as an example of one of his finest moments. There’s no denying the incident brought General Kelly lots of fame, but has he no shame?

Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson is a fourth-term Congresswoman from Florida representing parts of Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward counties. A former state legislator and school principal, she is the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school. Congresswoman Wilson also founded and chairs the Florida Ports Caucus, a bipartisan taskforce that coordinates federal action in support of Florida’s harbors and waterways. The Florida lawmaker sits on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Education and the Workforce Committee, and chairs the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions.
