Dan Siegel Kicks Off Mayoral Campaign
Oakland attorney Dan Siegel kicked off his mayoral campaign Thursday, staking out a progressive campaign that pledges to translate local development into jobs, keep gentrification from driving residents out of the city and enhance public safety while ending police abuse.
“Oakland is the most progressive, diverse and wonderful city in the U.S.,” said Siegel, flanked by his wife, attorney Anne Weills, speaking to a crowd of nearly 200 supporters at 14th and Broadway, near Oakland City Hall.
He opposed the Domain Awareness Center (DAC), a surveillance hub approved by the City Council to be built in Oakland. If he is elected, Siegel said, “The DAC is closing the next day.”
His supporters include Pastor Harold Mayberry of First African Methodist Church, who spoke at the campaign rally.

San Pablo Appoints New Economic Development and Housing Manager
Kieron Slaughter has been appointed as the economic development & housing manager for the City of San Pablo. Since 2017, Slaughter has served as chief strategic officer for economic innovation in the City of Berkeley’s Office of Economic Development. Previously, he served in a 2.5-year appointment in the Pacific West Region as one of 10 Urban Fellows in the United States National Park Service.

Since 2017, Slaughter has served as chief strategic officer for economic innovation in the City of Berkeley’s Office of Economic Development. Previously, he served in a 2.5-year appointment in the Pacific West Region as one of 10 Urban Fellows in the United States National Park Service.
Before that he was an associate planner in the City of Richmond’s Planning and Building Services Department from 2007-2015.
San Pablo City Manager Matt Rodriguez lauded Slaughter’s extensive experience in economic development, housing and planning, saying he will add a “valuable perspective to the City Manager’s Office.”
Slaughter, a Berkeley resident, will start in his new role on Nov. 12, with a base annual salary of $164,928, according to the City of San Pablo.
