Davis Chapel A. Moore Community Garden Beautification Project
By Marena Brown
Volunteers, community partners and members of the Davis Chapel CME Church collaborated on Saturday, May 23 to rebuild the Davis Chapel A. Moore Community Garden, located at 369 Chesley Ave. in Richmond.
Last year, Davis Chapel Neighborhood Enhancement Team (DCNET) received a grant from the North Richmond Mitigation Fund to assist with the ongoing maintenance of the community garden and beautification project in the North Richmond community.
Unfortunately, the original project site was sold and the garden was relocated to its current site.
Now, just in time for the summer, the community can benefit from this valuable resource thanks to North Richmond residents and community partners.
During the volunteer event, residents learned the benefits of recycling, water saving tips and resources on how to save our planet.
Young people are excited and ready to begin their weekly community and beautification activities with the dedicated volunteers that create and deliver structured activities addressing wellness, youth leadership, and other skills to assist young people with the challenges they face.
Local residents will serve as youth mentors as children learn the elements and concepts of gardening in a fun-filled, healthy and safe environment.
Those who participated included: volunteers of the North Richmond community, representatives from the City of Richmond and Contra Costa County, Shields-Reid Residents Neighborhood Council, Youth Services Bureau (YSB), BAPAC, Chevron, Urban Tilth, Men and Women of Valor, Solar Homes Construction, Center for Health, DCNET and Neighborhood House of North Richmond.
DCNET is a community-based organization of Davis Chapel CME Church that offers a spectrum of services for at-risk youth, individuals, families and residents of the community.
