D’Wayne Wiggins Featured in New TV Ad for Rebecca Kaplan
Oakland-born D’Wayne Wiggins — nationally famous for his work with musical group Tony! Toni! Toné! — has produced a TV ad encouraging voters to support Oakland mayoral candidate Rebecca Kaplan, her campaign announced Monday.
The 30-second spot is set to the music of “Feels Good,” a chart-topping single produced by Tony! Toni! Toné! in 1990.
Wiggins stars in the 30-second spot, which shows him on a bicycle when he sees Kaplan — also on a bicycle — and excitedly greets her. The two cycle around Oakland together before stopping in Frank H. Ogawa Plaza.
“Oakland is my home,” Wiggins said. “And I want Rebecca to be my mayor. I was born here — and I’ve never seen a sharper, more effective and more compassionate leader. She doesn’t just care about one neighborhood — she’ll be a mayor for the whole city. That’s what we need right now.”
Wiggins was born in the Lower Bottoms neighborhood of West Oakland. He attended Castlemont High School in East Oakland.
