El Cerrito High speedster Kaylah Robinson dazzled again on the national scene over the weekend, placing third in the girls 60-meter hurdles at the 39th Simplot Games at Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
The senior recorded a personal-best time of 8.36 in a race that a commentator called “quite possibly the fastest 60-hurdles race in the United States this year.” Her previous best was 8.50.
Robinson also placed fifth in the 60-meter dash in 7.64.
“It feels really good,” Robinson said, saying she has improved upon her start during races.
“That was my first race of the season, getting all the jinx out. Now, it’s time to play.”
Robinson says she knows she can go even faster and is excited to compete in the New Balance Nationals Indoor meet in New York in March.
The stiff competition she’s been up against has pushed her to be faster, she says.
She’s also discovered that when she hits her top speed late in a race, she can be very hard to beat.
Last year as a junior, Robinson placed second in the 100m hurdles at the CIF State Championship at Buchanan High’s Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis.
