IBM Makes it 22nd Straight Year as Top Patent Recipient

(USA Today) – Here’s a patented winning streak: IBM has maintained the No. 1 spot among U.S. patent recipients for 22 straight years.
The company announced today that in 2014 it received 7,534 patents, making it the first company to earn more than 7,000 patents in a single year.
“IBM’s continued investment in research and development is key to driving the transformation of our company, as we look to capture the emerging opportunities represented by cloud, big data and analytics, security, social and mobile,” IBM CEO Ginni Rometty said in a statement. “IBM’s patent leadership over more than two decades demonstrates our enduring commitment to the kind of fundamental R&D that can solve the most daunting challenges facing our clients and the world.”
