Marin County to offer below market deals starting August 12

A wide range of vehicles will be available for public purchase starting Saturday, August 12, when the Marin County Department of Public Works starts an online auction. The selection includes a dump truck, several pickup trucks, transport vans, and multiple cars, including a 2002 Toyota Prius and a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid.
Surplus vehicles and equipment are being offered at below market value. The auction is hosted by www.publicsurplus.com, a secure auction website specializing in selling surplus government property to the public.
As Marin County is committed to environmental awareness and fiscally responsible spending, the County fleet continues to be reduced. Vehicles with high fuel consumption or excessive particulate emissions are being sold and, if possible, replaced by more environmentally friendly options. The County fleet includes 80 hybrids and 8 electric vehicles. Renewable diesel fuel and solar-powered charging stations are also used to reduce the fleet’s carbon footprint.
The auction begins at midnight Sat. August 12, and closes at 2 p.m. Sat. August 19. Details about the auction items are not available or visible on the website until the auction begins. Vehicles with corresponding service records are available for inspection Tuesday, August 15, through Thursday, August 17, from noon to 3 p.m. at the County Public Works Garage, 6 Peter Behr Dr., San Rafael.
All items are sold “as is” and all sales are final; it is the buyer’s responsibility to check the vehicle’s condition prior to purchase. Payment must be received by Public Surplus within five business days of the auction’s close, and vehicles must be picked up weekdays between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. within five business days of receipt of payment.
For details, contact Lea Carre at lcarre@marincounty.org. Requests for accommodation can be made by calling 415-473-4381 or 415-473-3232 (TDD/TTY) or e-mail to disabilityaccess@marincounty. org.
