MLK Day of Service Volunteers to Beautify Richmond Greenway
The city appealed to volunteers on Instagram to “honor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy by coming together to beautify the Richmond Greenway Trail.” From 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., volunteers pitching in on a variety of tasks such as native plant and tree planting, tending to the Greenway Gardens, picking up trash and painting a mural as part of a community art installation.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic legacy will inspire the City of Richmond’s “MLK Day of Service” Monday, Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Unity Park Community Plaza and along the Richmond Greenway Trail. This year marks the event’s 18th year.
The city appealed to volunteers on Instagram to “honor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy by coming together to beautify the Richmond Greenway Trail.”
From 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., volunteers pitching in on a variety of tasks such as native plant and tree planting, tending to the Greenway Gardens, picking up trash and painting a mural as part of a community art installation.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers will convene at 17th Street near Unity Park, where there will be free worm soup, a petting zoo, a live DJ, painting activities and more. At 12 p.m. the organizers and volunteers will take time for a moment of reflection and celebration.
The event will be held rain or shine, and attendees are asked to bring weather-ready gear.
