Oakland Recognizes 58th Anniversary of East Bay Dragons Motorcycle Club

The Oakland City Council this week unanimously passed a resolution honoring the East Bay Dragons Motorcycle Club, “the nation’s most legendary and … elite African American motorcycle club” on the 58th anniversary of the organization´s founding.
The resolution, sponsored by Councilmembers Larry Reid and Desley Brooks, recognized the club for “being a positive social outlet for African-American men in Oakland,” with a long history of supporting charitable organizations, including riding a cure for breast cancer, AIDS awareness and violence prevention.
The East Bay Dragons hold annual block parties in August and September, recognize National Night Out around their clubhouse and donate school supplies and gift certificates to families in need and participate in the “Adopt a Family” program that provides families with gift cards and groceries during the holiday season.
“When dealing with a community often battling negativity and violence, (the club has) remained a symbol of positive community activism and pride within Oakland and African American community,” the resolution said.
