Remembering Oscar Grant 11-Years after Fatal Fruitvale BART Police Shooting

Say his name—Oscar Grant! Eleven years after Grant was fatally shot by a BART Police Officer, City of Oakland District 2 councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas attended a remembrance of Grant on Jan. 1, 2010 that included others whose lives were cut short due to police violence. Bas said she is committed to ending police violence and creating community safety.
“So glad that Lateefah Simon is the new President of the BART Board of Directors,” Bas said on her Twitter on New Years day. Bas said this years’ vigil for Grant at Fruitvale BART included a beautiful mural with the street named Oscar Grant Way.
“Today is also the day that AB 392 (CA Act to Save Lives) goes into effect. Thank you Uncle Bobby,” she said.
