Stockton Boys and Girls Club Loses National Charter

Published

The Boys and Girls Club of America has stripped Stockton Boys And Girls Club of its charter after questions were raised about money was being spent and Mayor Anthony Silva’s involvement.

< p>According to a report on CBS-13, Mayor Silva allegedly had turned down funds for the club to avoid allowing the national organization to see the local chapter’s financial records.

Club Board Member Terry Hull expressed his frustration, saying that without the charter, the club may have to close its doors, and the community would lose needed after school care.

Without its charter, the club is expected to lose $780,000, paid each year by the Stockton Unified School District for after school service, since the district cannot support an organization that does not have state approval.

In a released statement, SUSD spokesperson Dianne Barth-Feist said, the contract would be considered “null and void”.

Superintendent Steve Lowder also confirmed it in a written letter claiming the professional relationship between the organization and the school district will be terminated.

While the Boys and Girls Club America has not cited reason for revoking the chapter, many parents are concerned with replacing the after-school care for their children.
