Van Jones, Democratic Party Endorse Rebecca Kaplan
Rebecca Kaplan’s campaign for re-election to the Oakland City Council At-Large seat has received major new endorsements, including noted commentator, environmental justice advocate, and opponent of mass incarceration Van Jones and the Democratic Party.
According to Democratic Party leader Kathy Neal, “Rebecca is one of the most dedicated and knowledgeable public servants I know. She has proven over the course of her tenure at City Hall that she is an effective and responsive leader with a knack for getting things done.
“Her willingness to take the initiative on creating solutions for Oakland’s most pressing issues is what sets her apart from the crowded field of challengers.”
These new endorsements come along with those of Pastor J. Alfred Smith Sr., Assemblymember Sandré Swanson, Supervisor Keith Carson, and the California Nurses Association.
Kaplan’s reelection campaign is emphasizing her ongoing efforts on the Oakland City Council to pass strong local jobs policies, to end racial profiling and mass incarceration, for cleaner air for our community, and to protect and expand housing for local residents.
