Wale Takes ‘The Album About Nothing’ To Top of the Billboard Charts
(Star Pulse) – The title of rapper Wale’s latest album is an unfortunate one – The Album About Nothing. From a critical standpoint, The Album About Nothing is another captivating effort from the MC who has compelled the world with three previous LPs. From a commercial standpoint, Wale claims his second consecutive number one album, following 2013’s The Gifted. While The Gifted performed better, Wale’s impact at 100,000 units is impressive given seemingly less aggressive promotion compared to The Gifted (single “Bad” was a sizable single at the time).
Wale led a number of ‘impactful’ new releases, though the number two spot is reserved for the soundtrack to Furious 7, which holds off Ludacris’ Ludaversal for the #2 spot. How close were Wale and Furious 7 – not very, as Furious 7’s impact was roughly 26,000 units less. That said Ludacris and Furious 7 were neck and neck, with Luda scoring 73,000 units. Like Wale, the numbers are down a considerable amount more given Billboard’s new method of tabulation. Ludacris’ previous album, Battle of the Sexes, sold 137,000 copies, good enough for #1, and at the time that was considered underwhelming for the MC.
