10 Last-Minute Filing Tips as April 15 Tax Deadline Looms

(AL.com) – OK procrastinators, the clock is ticking.
The tax filing deadline for 2014 returns is less than one week away, and if you’ve waited until the very last weekend, precision is the name of the game.
As of April 3, the Internal Revenue Service had already received slightly more than 99 million returns and issued more than 77 million refunds averaging more than $2,800.
If, however, you’re among the roughly 60 million wayward filers who traditionally wait until the last minute, the IRS offers the following tips to help beat that midnight April 15 deadline with minimal error.
- File electronically: Tax software has come a long, long way in recent years and, quite honestly, does most of the work for you. From calculations to prompts for missing information, 21st-century filing programs vastly reduce the occurrence of tax return errors. Check out both e-file and IRS Free File for more information.
