Carlos Nava Murder Trial Ends
Closing arguments in the murder trial of two men who are accused of killing three-year-old Carlos Nava ended Thursday, with Alameda County Deputy District Attorney Ben Beltramo giving his rebuttal to the defenses’ closing statement.
< p>The child was killed in an alleged gang drive by in 2011. Lawrence Denard, 29, is charged with shooting at two rival gang members, Robert Hudson and Jerome Williams.
Willie Torrence, 25, is being charged with driving the car while Denard was allegedly shooting.
Both suspects are charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. They are also accused of being ex felons in possession of a firearm, firing from a vehicle and acting to benefit a criminal street gang.
The case is now in the hands of the jury, and a verdict is expected to come as early as next week.
