Attorney Anita Hill to Speak Saturday, March 10
Attorney and academic Anita Hill, a leading proponent for women’s rights, and workforce equity, will speak Saturday, March 10, 7 p.m., at the Oakland Marriott City Center, 1001 Broadway in Oakland.
The event, part of the Elihu Harris & Barbara Lee Lecture Series, is co-presented by the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center and Peralta Community College District.
Hill is a Brandeis University Professor of social policy, law, and women’s, gender and sexuality studies. She chairs the Commission on Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality in the Workplace.
The youngest of 13 children, she comes a family of Arkansas farmers, her great-grandparents and maternal grandfather, born into slavery. Shel attended Oklahoma State University, then Yale Law School and is now works at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis.
Ms. Hill is the author of three books, “Speaking Truth to Power,” “Reimagining Equality: Stories of Gender, Race, and Finding Home” and a legacy tribute on contributions of the Honorable Thurgood Marshall.
She became an attorney-adviser to Clarence Thomas at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, then at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission (EEOC). Hill later openly testified to Thomas’ workforce sexual harassment history, making her a national figure for women on matters relating to workforce bias and fairness.
