Blanco two-run triple backs Bumgarner for series win

San Francisco, CA – At a time whentheinjuries are taking a toll on the Giants starters. The guys off the bench have been just as good. Gregor Blanco was given the day off but got called in the seventh with runners on first and third with one out.Blanco tripled and scored in two runs for the lead and the 4-2 victory over the San Diego Padres. With today’s win, San Francisco improved to 2-1 on their current seven game homestead. The Giants have now won six consecutive series against the Padres at AT&T Park.“Gregor has really played well,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “He’s really come through in the clutch, which he did today. Whether he’s starting or coming off the bench and he’s a nice weapon.”
Blanco has started as the leadoff hitter while replacing the injured Angel Pagan and has batted sixth and seventh in the lineup. He’s now 2-for-6 with five RBIs as a pinch-hitter this season.
“It’s hard coming off the bench,” said Gregor. “Every time I see guys on base, I say, ‘you’re the guy to bring them in.'”
The game got a little testy in the second frame when Madison Bumgarner went behind Jesus Guzman at the plate. Both dugouts cleared and order had to be brought back to the field. Though, Bumgarner declined to comment on the incident he did discuss the two home runs he gave up despite a good outing.
“That’s obviously not ideal, but seems like mistakes I made they put good wood on,” Madison said. “They’re hot right now and a scrappy ball club.”
Both Will Venable and Guzman went deep in the third and seventh innings. Bumgarner earned his team leading seventh victory, as he threw 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks with eight strikeouts. This marked the first outing this season that he’s surrendered two home runs (last was Sept 29, 2012 against the Padres).
It’s been a team contribution in these last two wins. Juan Perez had a big game last night. Joaquin Arias extended his hitting streak to a career-high 10 games, as he went 1-for-4. And Blanco keeps getting better each game.
After being down 2-1, San Francisco rallied back in the seventh. Tony Abreu got things going when he singled and the hits kept coming thereafter. Hector Sanchez singled and Brandon Crawford pinched-run for Sanchez despite his injured finger.
Gregor’s two-run triple gave the Giants a 3-2 lead but it was Marco Scutaro, (who showed no signs of an injured pinkie) that brought in the insurance run. Scutaro’s RBI single extended the lead 4-2. San Diego’s pitcher Eric Stults lasted 6 1/3 innings yielding two earned runs on seven hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Trouble came for the Padres after Stults exit. It was Luke Gregerson that fell apart, giving up three seventh-inning runs and didn’t retire any of the batters he faced. This was the first time this season that Gregerson allowed an inherited runner to score in a game.
“That’s the first time I’ve ever seen Luke have trouble like he did,” said Eric. “I think it will be a long time until you see it again.”

Oakland Housing and Community Development Department Awards $80.5 Million to Affordable Housing Developments

The City of Oakland’s Housing and Community Development Department (Oakland HCD) announced its awardees for the 2024-2025 New Construction of Multifamily Affordable Housing Notice of Funding Availability (New Construction NOFA) today Five permanently affordable housing developments received awards out of 24 applications received by the Department, with award amounts ranging from $7 million to $28 million.
In a statement released on Jan. 16, Oakland’s HCD stated, “Five New Construction Multifamily Affordable Housing Development projects awarded a total of $80.5 million to develop 583 affordable rental homes throughout Oakland. Awardees will leverage the City’s investments to apply for funding from the state and private entities.”
In December, the office of Rebecca Kaplan, interim District 2 City Councilmember, worked with HCD to allocate an additional $10 Million from Measure U to the funding pool. The legislation also readopted various capital improvement projects including street paving and upgrades to public facilities.
The following Oakland affordable housing developments have been awarded in the current round:
Mandela Station Affordable
- 238 Affordable Units including 60 dedicated for Homeless/Special Needs
- Award: $15 million + previously awarded $18 million
- Developer: Mandela Station LP (Pacific West Communities, Inc. and Strategic Urban Development Alliance, LLC)

Oakland Acquisition Company’s Acquisition of County’s Interest in Coliseum Property on the Verge of Completion
The Board of Supervisors is committed to closing the deal expeditiously, and County staff have worked tirelessly to move the deal forward on mutually agreeable terms. The parties are down to the final details and, with the cooperation of OAC and Coliseum Way Partners, LLC, the Board will take a public vote at an upcoming meeting to seal this transaction.

The County of Alameda announced this week that a deal allowing the Oakland Acquisition Company, LLC, (“OAC”) to acquire the County’s 50% undivided interest in the Oakland- Alameda County Coliseum complex is in the final stages of completion.
The Board of Supervisors is committed to closing the deal expeditiously, and County staff have worked tirelessly to move the deal forward on mutually agreeable terms. The parties are down to the final details and, with the cooperation of OAC and Coliseum Way Partners, LLC, the Board will take a public vote at an upcoming meeting to seal this transaction.
Oakland has already finalized a purchase and sale agreement with OAC for its interest in the property. OAC’s acquisition of the County’s property interest will achieve two longstanding goals of the County:
- The Oakland-Alameda Coliseum complex will finally be under the control of a sole owner with capacity to make unilateral decisions regarding the property; and
- The County will be out of the sports and entertainment business, free to focus and rededicate resources to its core safety net
In an October 2024 press release from the City of Oakland, the former Oakland mayor described the sale of its 50% interest in the property as an “historic achievement” stating that the transaction will “continue to pay dividends for generations to come.”
The Board of Supervisors is pleased to facilitate single-entity ownership of this property uniquely centered in a corridor of East Oakland that has amazing potential.
“The County is committed to bringing its negotiations with OAC to a close,” said Board President David Haubert.
