Oakland A’s to Hold Inaugural African-American Heritage Night Against LA Dodgers August 7

On Tuesday, August 7 the Oakland A’s invite the entire community to participate in their inaugural “African-American Heritage Night” against the L.A. Dodgers, as they will celebrate the rich African-American culture of Oakland and the entire Bay Area.
“We feel it is important for our local community, corporate partners and extended personal and professional networks be invited to participate in this event,” said Taj Tashombe, vice president of external affairs for the A’s.
“Authentic outreach to our community is a major priority as we want to solidify our voice and connection to the future of professional sports and its role in Oakland. We are the only pro team that this city will call its own soon and we want the community to know that we love them and want them to love us,” Tashombe said.
Before the game, the A’s will be hosting an open Mixer and Panel Discussion in the East Side Club of the Coliseum for anyone with a ticket to the game with former players Vida Blue, Joe Morgan, and team executives. In addition, they will present the inaugural Vida Blue Diamond Award to a deserving community member for service to the African-American community.
But that’s not all…The African-American National Anthem will be performed by Tony! Toni! Toné!, the National Anthem performed by Bebe Memorial Cathedral Choir, and the First-pitch thrown out by Oakland’s own MC Hammer!
