Robert Lee Duncan III, 97
Robert Duncan passed peacefully on Feb. 17. He was 97.
Robert Lee Duncan III was born on June 9, 1916 in Louisville, Kentucky, the oldest of four children. He left home at 15 with special permission to work in the Civil Conservation Corps. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy.
His love for music began in a church school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1920. For 9 decades he sang in church choirs and more recently in the Berkeley Community Chorus and the Oakland Symphony Chorus.
He was ordained Elder in 1967 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Montclair, New Jersey. With his wife Sarah, he joined First Presbyterian Church of Oakland in 1969 when he was transferred to the Oakland Army Base.
He retired from the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir last year. He was a member of Four Season’s Arts for several years.
Duncan ’s services were held on Monday Feb. 24 .at the Albert Brown Mortuary.
